The N.E.W. Program, Inc. Announces
First Placement of Dual Balloon Weight Loss Device
The N.E.W. Program, Inc. announced today that it is the first weight loss program in North America to perform placement of the ReShape Dual Balloon in the U.S. clinical study, assessing the safety and effectiveness of this device as a tool for weight loss. The dual-balloon is designed for people who have grown beyond a healthy weight, but can’t or won’t undergo surgery.
"Numerous studies have made it clear that most people begin to develop severe adverse health consequences once they become obese, and effective weight control becomes increasingly difficult," according to Tracy Siegfried, M.D., and Medical Director at The N.E.W. Program. "There is an enormous unmet need among millions of Americans with a body mass index (BMI) less than 40, who have struggled with conventional methods of weight loss, and do not want surgery."
According to Brian Quebbemann M.D., FACS, and Surgical Director at The N.E.W. Program, "We are lucky to have companies like ReShape Medical (a San Clemente, Calif. based medical device manufacturer) with the creative initiative to develop a revolutionary new treatment that may help bridge the gap between dieting and weight loss surgery."
"Safety is an important factor when considering weight loss procedures," said Justin Braverman, M.D., who performed the initial procedures with the ReShape Dual Balloon devices. According to Dr. Braverman, the dual-balloon placement procedures did not involve general anesthesia and took an average of 15 minutes.
